Ottawa Redblacks agree to terms with Dominique Rhymes

The Ottawa Redblacks have agreed to terms on a contract with free agent receiver Dominique Rhymes, per sources. The first to report the news was the Canadian Press.

The two-year deal is worth around $420,000 in hard money and includes a signing bonus worth over $50,000. It can’t officially be signed until Rhymes passes a physical, which is expected to take a few days.

Rhymes lives in Ottawa during the off-season and has done so since his first stint with the Redblacks. He spent three seasons with the team from 2017 to 2019 before leaving as a free agent in 2020 when Rick Campbell left the nation’s capital to become the head coach and co-general manager of the B.C. Lions.

The 30-year-old made 35 receptions for 535 yards and six touchdowns over 10 games this past season in Vancouver but was released on Wednesday in what the team indicated was a salary cap move.

The six-foot-four, 215-pound target has made 250 receptions for 3,925 yards and 24 touchdowns over 75 career CFL games. He was named a CFL all-star in 2022.
