Canadian TE Tanner McLachlan accepts invite to 2024 Senior Bowl

Canadian tight end Tanner McLachlan has accepted an invitation to the 2024 Senior Bowl.

The six-foot-five, 240-pound pass catcher has played the last two seasons at the University of Arizona, becoming the most successful Wildcats tight end since Rob Gronkowski. In 25 games, McLachlan hauled in 79 passes for 984 yards and six touchdowns to become the school’s all-time receiving leader amongst tight ends. He was named an honourable mention All-PAC 12 selection for his efforts in 2023.

The native of Lethbridge, Alta. arrived in Tucson as a walk-on transfer from Southern Utah University, where he missed the 2021 season due to injury. In five years with the Thunderbirds, he saw action in 11 games and recorded 15 receptions for 168 yards and two touchdowns.

McLachlan was the 12th ranked player in the CFL’s fall Scouting Bureau rankings and the third Canadian to receive an invite to Mobile, Ala. this year, joining University of Illinois offensive lineman Isaiah Adams and Penn State tight end Theo Johnson. Four Canadians participated in the Senior Bowl last year, all of whom were selected in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Matthew Bergeron was a second-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons, Tavius Robinson was a fourth-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens while twin brothers Sydney and Chase Brown went in the third and fifth rounds to the Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals, respectively.

Other prominent Canadians to receive Senior Bowl invites in recent years include Cardinals’ edge defender Jesse Luketa, Chargers’ receiver Josh Palmer, Rams’ offensive lineman Alaric Jackson, Commanders’ cornerback Benjamin St-Juste, Dolphins’ receiver Chase Claypool, and Cowboys’ defensive tackle Neville Gallimore.

Practices will begin for the 2024 Senior Bowl game on Tuesday, January 30. The 75th edition of the all-star game will be played on Saturday, February 3 at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile. You can view the action on NFL Network beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET.
