Winnipeg Blue Bombers promote Jordan Younger to defensive coordinator, hire Mike Miller

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have promoted Jordan Younger to the role of defensive coordinator. Richie Hall, who has served in the role since 2015, will remain with the team in an undefined role.

“(Younger) has been an intelligent, creative and passionate leader for many years, and this transition is something that we had discussed a couple of years back,” said head coach Mike O’Shea in a statement. “Having Richie remain with the organization and provide his decades of experience is something we are all very grateful for.”

Younger joined the Blue Bombers as the club’s defensive backs coach in 2018 following a three-year run as an assistant coach with the Toronto Argonauts. The 45-year-old native of Trenton, N.J. played nine seasons in the CFL as a member of the Argos and Edmonton Football Team, winning a Grey Cup during his final season in 2012.

The club has also hired long-time special teams ace Mike Miller as its new special teams coordinator after Paul Boudreau wasn’t retained following six seasons with the team.

The 34-year-old native of Riverview, N.B. played 12 seasons in the CFL with stints in Edmonton and Winnipeg. In 2021, he broke Jason Arakgi’s record to become the league’s all-time leader in special teams tackles. Miller missed the entire 2023 season due to injury and has finished his career with 226 special teams tackles and two West Division all-star selections.

“Making any staff changes is never an easy decision, and we are very appreciative of the years Bou [sic] spent with us,” added O’Shea. “Mike Miller is a guy who is very well respected across our league, and I think will make a great coach. He is one of, if not the best, special teams player of all-time, and I’m looking forward to seeing him transition into this new role.”
