Laying down the Lawson: Bombers extend Canadian DT Cameron Lawson

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have agreed to a two-year contract extension with Canadian defensive tackle Cameron Lawson that will keep him with the team through 2025.

The six-foot-three, 281-pound native of Caledon, Ont. played all 18 games in 2023, notching eight defensive tackles, five sacks, and an interception while playing a rotational role behind veteran Jake Thomas.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2020 CFL Draft by the Montreal Alouettes, he initially struggled to see the field and was traded to Winnipeg during the 2022 Draft for picks that would eventually become Canadian receiver Tyson Philpot and offensive lineman Rodeem Brown. He played all 18 games that season, notching 12 tackles and a sack.

Prior to the CFL, Lawson played four seasons at Queen’s University. He amassed 73.5 total tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks over that span and was named a second-team All-Canadian as a senior.

The Bombers will begin their 2024 season on Thursday, June 6 at 8:30 p.m. ET when they host the Montreal Alouettes.
