The Edmonton Elks have signed American linebacker Chris Whittaker for the 2024 season.
The six-foot-three, 230-pound edge rusher suited up for 14 games in 2022 with the University of the Incarnate Word, racking up 36 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. He earned a rookie mini-camp tryout with the Denver Broncos in 2023 but was not signed, being drafted instead by the XFL’s Arlington Renegades.
Prior to his time with the Cardinals, Whittaker played at Florida International University during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, compiling 27 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks in 15 games. He began his collegiate career at the University of Kentucky in 2017 but did not see any game action over two seasons.
The Edmonton Elks will begin their 75th anniversary season on Saturday, June 8 when they host the Saskatchewan Roughriders at 7:00 p.m. ET.
