Argos extend Canadian REC Tommy Nield, DB Jamie Harry

The Toronto Argonauts have inked a pair of Canadians to contract extensions for the 2024 season, re-signing receiver Tommy Nield and defensive back Jamie Harry.

Nield had a breakout campaign in 2023, suiting up in nine games for the Boatmen and notching five starts. He caught 32 passes for 384 yards, all of which came after Week 14.

Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2021 CFL Draft out of McMaster University, the six-foot-three, 200-pound target has dressed for 30 career games and caught 42 passes for 575 yards and one touchdown. While with the Marauders, Nield recorded 102 receptions for 1,618 yards and 10 touchdowns, earning second-team OUA all-star honours after leading the team to a Yates Cup victory in 2019.

Harry joined the Argos in August after being cut by the Edmonton Elks in training camp and went on to play six games for the organization, including three starts at cornerback. He registered 12 tackles.

The 29-year-old was originally a fifth-round pick of the Argonauts in the 2019 CFL Draft out of the University of Ottawa but failed to make the team during his first training camp. He later joined the B.C. Lions and has made 38 career tackles over 28 games played.

While with the Gee-Gees, Harry was twice named a first-team All-Canadian as he recorded 98 solo tackles and 14 interceptions.

The Argos will open their 2024 season on Sunday, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. ET when they host the B.C. Lions.
