Football Canada appoints lawyer, flag football coach Celestine Chartier to Board of Directors

Football Canada has appointed a new member to its Board of Directors, adding Celestine Chartier for a term which concludes in 2025.

A native of Montreal, Que., Chartier currently serves as defensive coordinator for the Vieux-Montreal Spartiates flag football team. A seasoned flag player who has served as captain on both coed and women’s teams, she boasts over a decade of participation in the sport.

Chartier works professionally as a litigation lawyer and also possesses a diploma in Business and Administration. She has previous experience serving on a variety of boards, where she has been an advocate for the advancement of women in professional settings.

“The timing could not be better for our organization to have Celestine join us in our effort to grow football across the country and ready Team Canada for expanded international competition starting in 2024,” Football Canada president Jim Mullin said in a statement.

“With ongoing policy changes for amateur sport, we will rely on Celestine’s legal background to navigate our path forward.”

In addition to Mullin and Chartier, the Football Canada board currently consists of Jay Hetherington, Dale Williams, Jason Lafferty, Arash Madani, Tara Mrakic, Paul Young, and Steve Figner. The organization has served as the governing body for amateur football in Canada since it was reincorporated in 1884 and represents the country at both the grassroots and international levels.
