The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American running back Jerrion Ealy for the 2024 CFL season.
The five-foot-eight, 189-pound back spent parts of two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs after going unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft, winning a Super Bowl as a member of the team’s practice roster last season. He didn’t dress for a single game as a rookie but was slapped with a six-game suspension for a performance-enhancing drug violation.
Ealy was re-signed by the Chiefs despite that mistake and spent 2023 training camp with the team, practicing primarily out of the slot. He was waived on August 29 as part of final roster cuts.
Prior to his professional career, Ealy spent three seasons at Ole Miss. He was named to the 2019 SEC All-Freshman team and never saw his production dissipate, carrying 384 times for 2,235 yards and 20 touchdowns in 33 career games. The versatile weapon also caught 67 passes for 545 yards and four scores while returning 34 kickoffs for 864 yards and two majors, earning second-team All-SEC status as an all-purpose player in 2020. That same year, Ealy was selected as the third-team All-American running back by data analytics firm Pro Football Focus.
The Riders are slated to open their 2024 season on Saturday, June 8 at 7:00 p.m. ET when they visit the Edmonton Elks.
