Canadian OL Samuel Thomassin retires from CFL

Published on

Canadian offensive lineman Samuel Thomassin has announced his retirement from professional football.

The 28-year-old was picked in the second round of the 2019 CFL Draft as a territorial selection by the Montreal Alouettes out of Laval Université. He returned to the Rouge et Or for his final season of U Sports eligibility that year before spending the 2021 season with the Alouettes, dressing for two games in a depth role. He spent the first half of the 2022 season with the Als before being released by the team.

The six-foot-six, 330-pound blocker signed with the Edmonton Elks two months later and finished the season on the club’s practice roster. He returned to the Elks in 2023 but didn’t dress for any regular season games, spending the entire year on the six-game injured list.

Thomassin was a two-time first-team U Sports All-Canadian at Laval.
