Top 2024 CFL Draft prospect Kail Dava undergoes surgery, out long-term

Tennessee Tech defensive lineman Kail Dava, a top prospect in the 2024 CFL Draft, has undergone surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff, per sources. He will be out for the next six to nine months.

The native of Mississauga, Ont. is currently the No. 18-ranked prospect on the CFL’s scouting bureau rankings. He played nine games for the Golden Eagles this season prior to suffering the injury, recording 15 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks.

The six-foot-three, 281-pound defender was named a Phil Steele FCS Freshman All-American in 2019 after making a career-high four sacks.

Dava is one of two top prospects who has recently had to undergo surgery, alongside Saskatchewan Huskies’ linebacker Nick Wiebe.

There is currently no date set for the 2024 CFL Draft, though it traditionally takes place during the first week of May. The draft order is as follows: Edmonton Elks; Ottawa Redblacks; Saskatchewan Roughriders; Calgary Stampeders; Hamilton Tiger-Cats; B.C. Lions; Toronto Argonauts; Winnipeg Blue Bombers; Montreal Alouettes.
