Université Laval linebacker Justin Cloutier has won the Peter Gorman Trophy as the U Sports Rookie of the Year.
Cloutier beat out Bishop’s offensive lineman Mikhael Pattin, Wilfrid Laurier linebacker Ethan Gregorcic, and Regina quarterback Owen Sieben for the honour. He is the fourth winner in school history, following Mathieu Betts in 2015, Hugo Richard in 2014, and Jean-Frederic Tremblay in 2000.
In seven regular-season games, the six-foot-one, 215-pound defender amassed 28.5 tackles and a quarterback sack to finish ninth amongst defensive players in the RSEQ. He added seven tackles and an interception in two playoff contests, though the Rouge et Or fell to the rival Montreal Carabins in the Dunsmore Cup.
The Montreal Carabins will face off against the UBC Thunderbirds in the 58th Vanier Cup on Saturday, November 25 at 1:00 p.m. EST in Richardson Memorial Stadium in Kingston, Ont.
