Adam Bighill, Dalton Schoen active for Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 110th Grey Cup

Veteran middle linebacker Adam Bighill and receiver Dalton Schoen will be active for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 110th Grey Cup in Hamilton. Both players were initially listed as game-time decisions.

Neither Bighill nor Schoen participated in the team’s on-field warmup, with projected replacements Winston Rose and Greg McCrae going through the paces in their place.

Bighill suffered a calf injury during the West Final and didn’t return to the game. He was replaced by Malik Clements and Brian Cole and the club’s defence didn’t skip a beat, generating nine sacks and five takeaways during a 24-13 win over the B.C. Lions.

The future Hall of Famer was in a walking boot when he got off the plane to Hamilton on Monday, but never wore it at practice. He has produced 74 defensive tackles, four sacks, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown in 17 games this season.

Malik Clements was listed as Bighill’s primary backup, though Shayne Gauthier and Brian Cole also saw time last week as part of a rotation at linebacker. It remains to be seen how much the 35-year-old will be able to play.

Schoen has missed the club’s last three games with an ankle injury. The two-time CFL all-star made 72 catches for 1,233 yards and 10 touchdowns over 16 games this season before leaving the lineup due to injury.

The receiver listed behind Schoen is veteran Canadian target Brendan O’Leary-Orange, who made six catches for 111 yards and one touchdown this season.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Montreal Alouettes will meet in the 110th Grey Cup on Sunday, Nov. 19 at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. EST.
