Bombers place REC Dalton Schoen on one-game injured list

Published on

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be without their top pass catcher when they face the Edmonton Elks on Saturday.

Receiver Dalton Schoen (ankle) has been unable to practice this week after he was hobbled late in the team’s Week 18 win against the B.C. Lions. He has since been placed on the one-game injured list and the team has not indicated that the issue will be season-ending.

Through 16 games this season, Schoen sits third in CFL receiving yardage with 71 receptions for 1,222 yards and 10 touchdowns. That sits just behind the pace of his breakout first season in the league when he collected 70 receptions for 1,441 yards and 16 touchdowns, earning Most Outstanding Rookie honours.

Canadian receiver Brendan O’Leary-Orange will take Schoen’s spot in the starting lineup, while versatile receiver/running back Greg McCrae has been activated from the practice roster.

Despite defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat and safety Brandon Alexander being listed as questionable on Thursday, the Bombers have made no other changes to their roster. Cornerback Demerio Houston (knee) will remain on the one-game injured list for a second straight game.

Still on the team’s six-game injured list are linebackers Jared Beeksma and Shayne Gauthier, defensive back Alden Darby, fullback Mike Miller, and receiver Jeremy Murphy.

The Bombers (12-4) will host the Elks (4-13) on Saturday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. EDT. With a victory, Winnipeg can clinch first place in the West Division.
