Edmonton Elks release defensive back Mark McLaurin, four others

The Edmonton Elks have released defensive back Mark McLaurin, who started eight games for the team this season at safety and strong-side linebacker.

The 26-year-old recorded 41 defensive tackles, two special teams tackles, and one forced fumble over 11 games. He joined the team as a free agent in 2022 and made seven defensive tackles, five special teams tackles, and one interception in two games that year.

The six-foot-two, 215-pound defender played collegiately at Mississippi State and had stints with the New York Giants and The Spring League after going unselected in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Elks also released quarterback Dresser Winn, offensive lineman B.J. Wilson, defensive lineman Emeke Egbule, and defensive back Josh Nurse. Egbule was the only of the four to dress for a game this season as he made one defensive tackle over three contests.

Edmonton (4-13) will visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (12-4) for the their final game of the season on Saturday, Oct. 21 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
