Elks release Canadian receiver Danny Vandervoort (again)

The Edmonton Elks have released Canadian receiver Danny Vandervoort for the second time this month.

The native of Barrie, Ont. spent the first 13 weeks of the 2023 season on the Elks’ practice roster, before being released on September 6. He was re-signed to the practice roster just five days later and has remained there for the past two weeks.

Vandervoort caught eight passes for 75 yards and one touchdown with the Elks in 2022. He was in his fourth season with the team since joining them as a free agent in 2019.

The six-foot-two, 204-pound target was a first-round pick of the B.C. Lions in the 2017 CFL Draft out of McMaster University. He has made 12 receptions for 154 yards and three touchdowns over 57 career CFL games.

The release makes space for Canadian defensive lineman Luke Burton-Krahn, the team’s third-round pick in the 2023 CFL Draft, to come off the six-game injured list. Edmonton also released American linebacker Caleb Tannor.

The Elks (4-11) are on a bye this week. They will return to action on Friday, October 6 when they visit the Toronto Argonauts (12-1).
