The Edmonton Elks will have three key starters back in the lineup for their rematch with the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday, none more impactful than safety Loucheiz Purifoy.

The 30-year-old veteran has missed the last three games while battling a calf injury but returns to a defensive backfield in desperate need of a boost. In nine games this season, Purifoy has amassed 30 tackles and three interceptions, returning two for touchdowns.

A CFL all-star last season with the B.C. Lions, Purifoy has collected 312 defensive tackles, 19 interceptions and eight sacks in his eight-year career.

Marloshawn Franklin Jr., who has notched 17 tackles in six starts at safety this season, has been placed on the one-game injured list with a hamstring issue.

The Elks will also receive a massive boost on both sides of the line of scrimmage, led by the return of left guard David Foucault. The 34-year-old missed last week after starting the first 11 games for the team this season and all 18 last year. Rookie Phil Grohovac will be a healthy scratch.

Also returning is behemoth Canadian defensive tackle J-Min Pelley, who has been out of the lineup for six games. The six-foot-five, 330-pounder has eight tackles this season while eating up space inside.

Veteran special teamer Jordan Reaves (foot) is the only player added to the six-game injured list this week.

The Elks (2-10) will host the Stampeders (4-8) on Saturday, September 9 at 7:00 p.m. EDT. Calgary secured a 35-31 comeback victory in last week’s meeting between the two Alberta rivals.
