B.C. Lions lose Canadian DL Nathan Cherry for season due to knee injury

The B.C. Lions have lost Canadian defensive lineman Nathan Cherry for the season due to a knee injury.

“We were holding out some hope but he’s going to be done for the year,” head coach and co-general manager Rick Campbell told the media on Wednesday. “He’s a young guy, good player and we’ll look forward to having him next year.”

The native of Saskatoon, Sask. has dressed for 10 games this season with one start at defensive tackle, recording seven tackles and one sack.

The 24-year-old was selected with the third overall pick in the 2022 CFL Draft out of the University of Saskatchewan. He dressed for 17 games as a rookie and made seven tackles and one sack.

Fellow defensive lineman Woody Baron was a full participant in practice on Wednesday after missing last week’s loss to Saskatchewan with an adductor injury. Offensive lineman Jarell Broxton and defensive end Francis Bemiy also practice with the team after sitting out last game.

The Lions (7-3) are scheduled to host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (3-6) on Saturday, Aug. 26 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT. It will be the first of two meetings between the clubs this season.
