Calgary Stampeders sign veteran defensive back Shaquille Richardson

The Calgary Stampeders have signed American defensive back Shaquille Richardson.

The 31-year-old most recently played for the Toronto Argonauts, earning an East Division all-star nod in 2021 and winning a Grey Cup in 2022. He became a free agent in February.

The six-foot-one, 190-pound cover man originally broke into the CFL with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2015, though he was released to pursue an NFL opportunity with the Arizona Cardinals. He returned north of the border in 2016 as a member of the Stampeders and remained with the club for two years.

The native of Compton, Calif. has had a number of stints in the NFL since being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2014, though he has never dressed for a regular season NFL game. His resume includes stops with the Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs, Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, Carolina Panthers, and Oakland Raiders. He was also a member of the Arizona Hotshots of the AAF in 2019.

The Arizona product has played 56 career regular season CFL games and recorded 133 defensive tackles, six tackles for loss, 18 special teams tackles, one sack, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 16 pass knockdowns, and 10 interceptions.

The Stampeders also released Canadian long snapper Maxime Latour, who played two games while Aaron Crawford was out due to injury.
