Calgary Stampeders’ RB Ka’Deem Carey returns to the lineup vs. Lions

Published on

The Calgary Stampeders will get a massive boost to their backfield ahead of Saturday’s clash with the B.C. Lions, as star running back Ka’Deem Carey makes his return to the lineup.

Carey carried the ball seven times for 39 yards in the club’s season-opening 25-15 loss to the Lions before leaving the game in the third quarter with a toe injury. He has missed the last seven games but was a full participant in practice this week.

The 30-year-old back was named a CFL all-star in 2022 after rushing for 1,088 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also caught 28 passes for 248 yards.

In 36 career CFL games, he has rushed 410 times for 2,422 yards and 19 touchdowns, adding 69 receptions for 576 yards and another major.

Backup Dedrick Mills, who sits second in the CFL with 96 carries for 483 yards and three touchdowns, will remain on the roster behind Carey. First-year CFLer LeVante Bellamy will be a healthy scratch.

The only other change to the Stampeders’ roster comes in the receiving corps, where Tre Odoms-Dukes returns after having been a game-time scratch last week. Floyd Allen returns to the practice roster.

Defensive lineman Elliott Graham will be a healthy scratch, while long snapper Aaron Crawford (calf), and receivers Cole Tucker (foot) and Colton Hunchak (hip) have extended their stay on the one-game injured list.

The Stampeders still have 12 players on the six-game injured list including defensive backs Daniel Amoako, Julian Charles, Tae Daley, Bailey Devine-Scott, Natrell Jamerson, and Shaquille St-Lot. Also on the shelf long-term are receivers Malik Henry and Jalen Philpot, returner Peyton Logan, linebacker Silas Stewart, defensive end James Vaughters, and offensive lineman Hugh Thornton.

Calgary (3-5) will visit B.C. (6-2) on Saturday, August 12 at 7:00 p.m. EDT. They are currently [metabet_core_dynamic_odds market=”spread-away” query=”531042″ site_id=”3downnation”] point underdogs.
