Winnipeg Blue Bombers to field consistent roster against Edmonton Elks

Published on

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are keeping their roster consistent for Thursday’s game against the Edmonton Elks, making zero changes from their win over B.C. last week.

The Blue Bombers welcomed veteran defenders Kyrie Wilson and Winston Rose back into the lineup in their 50-14 win over the Lions. Wilson made two tackles at weak-side linebacker in his return from an Achilles injury he suffered early last season, while Rose recorded five tackles and one pass knockdown at field-side cornerback.

Defensive back Jamal Parker remains on Winnipeg’s one-game injured list, while those on the six-game injured list include star returner Janarion Grant, rookie defensive end Celestin Haba, Canadian linebacker Shayne Gauthier, and special teams ace Mike Miller.

This will mark the second of three meetings between Winnipeg and Edmonton this season, the first of which was played at IG Field in Week 7. The Blue Bombers won the contest by a score of 28-14 as Brady Oliveira ran for 110 yards and Zach Collaros threw touchdown passes to Nic Demski and Rasheed Bailey. The final meeting between the clubs is set for Saturday, Oct. 21 at IG Field.

The Elks will start Canadian quarterback Tre Ford, giving the former first-round draft pick his first opportunity to play this season. The Waterloo product completed 58 percent of his passes for 461 yards, two touchdowns, and five interceptions as a rookie in 2022 and went 1-2 as the team’s starting quarterback. The dual-threat passer also ran the ball 19 times for 149 yards.

The Blue Bombers (6-2) are scheduled to visit the Elks (0-8) on Thursday, Aug. 10 with kickoff slated for 9:00 p.m. EDT. Edmonton has lost 21 consecutive home games, breaking the previous North America professional sports record set by the St. Louis Browns in 1953.
