Former CFL linebacker Sam Eguavoen has signed with the New York Jets, according to an announcement made by his agent David Canter.
Eguavoen had been a free agent since March 15. He worked out for the Jets on Saturday after the team had two linebackers go down with injuries in training camp.
The Texas Tech University product went unselected in the 2015 NFL Draft and signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders the following year. He became a household name over three seasons in Regina, recording 173 total tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles and one interception in 38 CFL games.
The 30-year-old signed with the Miami Dolphins ahead of the 2019 season and stuck with the team for four seasons. He appeared in 66 games, including seven starts, and registered 71 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, four sacks, two fumble recoveries, and one defensive touchdown.
Eguavoen has earned more than $3.9 million dollars over the course of his NFL career.
The Jets opened the preseason on Thursday with a 21-16 loss to the Cleveland Browns. They next play the Carolina Panthers on Saturday, August 12.
NFL rosters must be cut down to 53 players on Tuesday, August 29. The Jets will kick off their 2023 season on Monday, September 11 against the Buffalo Bills.
