The Edmonton Elks will have starting middle linebacker Nyles Morgan back on the field when they face the B.C. Lions on Saturday.

Morgan missed last week’s loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers with a chest injury suffered in practice. He was originally placed on the six-game injured list but was pulled off after just one game.

The Notre Dame product has made six starts this season, collecting 36 tackles, a sack, and an interception. Now in his third season with the Elks, he has registered 142 total tackles, two sacks and a pick in 25 games.

Offensively, the Elks have added second-year Canadian Gavin Cobb to their starting lineup following the surprise release of American rookie Maurice Ffrench earlier this week. The five-foot-10, 170-pound speedster missed his entire rookie season with a broken leg and has just one reception for 11 yards this year, adding five kickoff returns for 123 yards.

Canadian receiver Danny Vandervoort has been activated for a depth role, though the team will be without fullback Mario Villamizar (knee) after placing him on the one-game injured list.

The Elks (0-7) will host the Lions (5-1) on Saturday, July 29 at 7:00 p.m. EDT. With a loss, the team can set a new all-time North American pro sports record with 21 consecutive home defeats.
