Calgary Stampeders sign two, release two

The Calgary Stampeders have signed American defensive back Brad Muhammad and American defensive lineman Alex Tchangam to their practice roster.

Muhammad started 16 games with Calgary in 2022, recording 50 defensive tackles, five special teams tackles, one tackle for loss, 10 pass knockdowns, two interceptions, and one forced fumble. He was cut by the team following training camp this year and had a brief stint on the practice roster with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The five-foot-ten, 189-pound cover man broke into the league as a member of the Ottawa Redblacks in 2021, making 14 defensive tackles and two tackles for loss. The 27-year-old has previously been a member of the Cedar Rapids River Kings of the Indoor Football League and won a championship with the Albany Empire of the National Arena League.

Tchangam attended training camp with the B.C. Lions this season and made three tackles over the team’s two preseason games. He has also previously been a member of the Seattle Seahawks. The six-foot-three, 245-pound edge rusher made 20 tackles, three tackles, for loss, three sacks, one forced fumble, and one pass knockdown as a season at the University of Colorado.

Calgary has also released American offensive lineman Caleb Benenoch and American receiver Jahleel Billingsley.

Benenoch made two starts for the Stampeders at right tackle this season but was subsequently moved to the practice roster. The veteran blocker was a fifth-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2016 NFL Draft and spent four seasons with the team. He dressed for 36 career NFL games as a member of the Bucs, New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers, Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, and New Orleans Saints.

Billingsley joined the team’s practice roster two weeks ago. He did not dress for any regular season games.
