Vernon Adams Jr.’s knee ‘structurally stable,’ Lions not ruling him out for Week 8: report

B.C. Lions’ quarterback Vernon Adams Jr.’s injury may not be as serious as initially feared, with no damage to any major ligaments.

According to a report from TSN’s Farhan Lalji, the Lions will assess their franchise quarterback over the coming days to determine whether he is able to play in Week 8.

“Good news for Vernon Adams Jr. & the BC Lions. His knee is structurally stable & no ligament damage. Will see how he responds over next 1-2 days. Hasn’t been ruled out for this week’s game vs Elks, but team has been very cautious with injuries all year. Having a capable backup helps.”

Adams went down awkwardly when sacked by Saskatchewan’s Pete Robertson mid-way through the first quarter of Saturday night’s game. He was unable to return, with the Lions scratching out a 19-9 victory under the leadership of backup Dane Evans.

“The initial indication is we’re talking about something that’s a week or weeks, it’s not season-ending or anything like that,” head coach Rick Campbell said of the injury post-game. “It would be misguided for me to speculate further than that, other than it doesn’t seem crazy serious, we’ll put it that way.”

The 30-year-old pivot entered Week 7 as the CFL’s second-leading passer, having completed 71.5 percent of his passes for 1,540 yards, nine touchdowns, and eight interceptions in five games.

Since arriving in the CFL in 2016, Adams has thrown for 10,022 yards, 58 touchdowns, and 35 interceptions with the Montreal Alouettes, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and Lions.

B.C. (5-1) is scheduled to visit Edmonton (0-7) on Saturday, July 29.
