Montreal Alouettes release veteran DE Nick Usher

The Montreal Alouettes have released American defensive end Nick Usher.

The six-foot-four, 256-pound defensive end was in his third season with the Alouettes after joining the team ahead of the 2021 season. He has started for all five games this season, registering five tackles and a sack.

The UTEP product first arrived in the CFL with the Edmonton Elks in 2018, following stints with the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots. He had his best campaign the following season, collecting 36 tackles and six sacks before signing with the Las Vegas Raiders.

After being waived in training camp, Usher returned to Canada the following year and joined the Alouettes. In his first season, he recorded 34 tackles and four sacks in 14 games, before notching 29 tackles and three sacks in 14 games last year.

In 58 career CFL games, Usher has amassed 111 defensive tackles and 15 sacks.

The Alouettes (2-3) are currently on a bye, with their next game scheduled for Sunday, July 30 against the Calgary Stampeders.
