Kenny Lawler will officially be back in the lineup this week when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers host the Edmonton Elks.
The veteran receiver missed the first six games of the season due to an immigration issue that arose after he pled guilty to impaired driving. He will practice with the team on Tuesday.
Lawler was arrested during the 2021 season after he was involved in a single-vehicle accident in Winnipeg. He was charged with impaired driving and suspended one game by the team and apologized for his mistake, calling it a “selfish decision.”
The 29-year-old reportedly entered his guilty plea in Winnipeg court on April 4, 2023 and incurred a fine of $1,500 and a one-year suspension of his driver’s license. This triggered issues with Canadian immigration as having a criminal record made him inadmissible for entry into the country.
The six-foot-three, 197-pound pass catcher returned to Winnipeg in free agency this past off-season, taking a discount to rejoin the club following one-year stint in Edmonton. In 41 career CFL games, Lawler has caught 165 passes for 2,545 yards and 15 touchdowns.
The Blue Bombers (4-2) will host the Elks (0-6) on Thursday, July 20 with kickoff slated for 8:30 p.m. EDT.
