Eugene Lewis will not dress for the Edmonton Elks on Friday when the club visits the Ottawa Redblacks due to a knee injury.

The six-foot-one, 208-pound target has made 11 receptions for 200 yards and one touchdown through three games this season, sitting ninth league-wide in receiving yardage. The club’s next-leading receiver, Steven Dunbar Jr., has made 14 receptions for 151 yards on the year.

The Elks made Lewis the CFL’s highest-paid non-quarterback this past off-season, signing him to a two-year deal worth $320,000 annually. He was named the Most Outstanding Player in the East Division this past year with the Montreal Alouettes after making 91 receptions for 1,303 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was also effective in the postseason, catching 12 passes for 181 yards over two games.

The 30-year-old has made 287 catches for 4,547 yards and 29 touchdowns since signing his first CFL contract in 2017. He is a three-time East Division all-star and two-time CFL all-star.

The Elks (0-3) will face the Redblacks (0-2) at 7:30 p.m. EDT on Friday, June 30. Though the club has yet to confirm who will be at quarterback, all signs point to rookie Jarret Doege making his first career start for the Elks.
