Trevor Harris to start for the Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Winnipeg Blue Bomber despite hip injury

Published on

Trevor Harris will be the starting quarterback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday night despite battling through a hip injury.

Harris completed 20-of-33 pass attempts for 179 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in his debut with the club, helping lead the Riders to a 17-13 victory over the Edmonton Elks. He was injured on Saskatchewan’s final offensive play of the game when he was hit while delivering a pass designed to run out the clock, which drew criticism from pundits around the league.

The injury, which head coach Craig Dickenson described as a “hip pointer,” has caused Harris significant pain throughout the week and forced him to sit out of practice on Wednesday. He was named a game-time decision by the Riders but cleared the necessary tests to be able to play.

Mason Fine, who was in line to start if Harris couldn’t go, will remain the backup. Shea Patterson will continue to handle the short yardage.

The Riders (1-0) kick off against the Bombers (1-0) at 9:00 p.m. EDT from Mosaic Stadium. They are currently [metabet_core_dynamic_odds market=”spread-home” query=”531010″ site_id=”3downnation”] point underdogs.
