Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ DL Jackson Jeffcoat out vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be without star defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat when the club takes on the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday night.

The 32-year-old suffered a calf injury in last week’s victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and did not participate in practice this week. He has been placed on the six-game injured list. The Texas product will be replaced in the starting lineup by rookie Celestin Haba, who recorded a sack in his CFL debut against the Ticats.

Jeffcoat has played 65 career games with Winnipeg since joining the team in 2017, recording 126 defensive tackles, 30 sacks, seven forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and two interceptions. He was named a CFL all-star in 2021.

The rest of Winnipeg’s starting lineup will remain the same from their season-opener at IG Field. Defensive tackle Miles Fox, who was signed this past week after being with the B.C. Lions in training camp, will dress in a depth role behind starter Ricky Walker.

Winnipeg went 3-0 against the Riders in 2022 and has won seven consecutive regular season and postseason games against their prairie rivals.

The Blue Bombers (1-0) are scheduled to visit the Riders (1-0) on Friday with kickoff slated for 9:00 p.m. EDT. This will mark the first of three meetings between the prairie rivals this season with the other two coming in the Labour Day Classic and Banjo Bowl.
