Saskatchewan Roughriders’ QB Trevor Harris listed as game-time decision vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Published on

The Saskatchewan Roughriders could be without their starting quarterback for their Week 2 clash with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, as veteran Trevor Harris has officially been listed as a game-time decision.

Harris did not participate in practice on Wednesday due to a hip injury sustained while delivering a pass designed to run out the clock on the final offensive play of Saskatchewan’s Week 1 win over Edmonton. He finished the game 20-of-33 for 179 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

If Harris is unable to play, backup Mason Fine will get the nod. The third-year Rider has thrown for 754 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions over 19 career CFL games. He started the final two games of the 2022 season after Cody Fajardo was benched, losing back-to-back contests to the Calgary Stampeders.

Regardless of who is under centre, the Riders will be facing several significant roster changes. Veteran receiver Derel Walker (knee) has been placed on the six-game injured list and will be replaced by Tevin Jones, who caught 20 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns in nine games last season. Starting cornerback Nick Marshall (shoulder) has been moved to the one-game injured list, with rookie Deontai Williams expected to take his spot.

Strong-side linebacker Derrick Moncrief (shoulder) remains out for the second straight week. Defensive tackle Miles Brown will be a healthy scratch, as defensive back Rodney Clemons draws into the lineup.

Saskatchewan went 0-3 against the Blue Bombers in 2022 and has lost seven consecutive regular season and postseason games against their prairie rivals.

The Riders (1-0) are scheduled to host the Blue Bombers (1-0) on Friday with kickoff slated for 9:00 p.m. EDT. This will mark the first of three meetings between the prairie rivals this season with the other two coming in the Labour Day Classic and Banjo Bowl.
