Henry Burris no longer coaching with Jacksonville Jaguars: report

Henry Burris is no longer coaching with the Jacksonville Jaguars following a one-year stint as the club’s offensive control coach, according to TSN reporter Dave Naylor.

Former CFL QB @HenryBurris will not be back with @Jaguars in a quality control role for the 2023 season. Is looking up move-up to QB coaching role in the @NFL for next season. Has interviewed for jobs with other teams during the past month.

The 47-year-old joined Jacksonville last March shortly after joining the B.C. Lions as an offensive consultant. The Jags improved dramatically on offence this past season under new head coach Doug Pederson, ranking tenth league-wide in points scored, total yards, and passing yards. The club finished atop the AFC South with a 9-8 record and won a playoff game for the first time since 2017.

Burris served on staff with the Chicago Bears in 2020 as part of the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship program. He became the club’s offensive quality control coach in 2021 but was not retained after the Bears fired head coach Matt Nagy.

A member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, Burris appeared in 277 regular season and 17 playoff contests split between four different CFL teams: Calgary (1997-99, 2005-11), Saskatchewan (2000, 2003-04), Hamilton (2012-13) and Ottawa (2014-16).

In between his stints with the Roughriders, the two-time CFL Most Outstanding Player played for the Bears from 2001-02, completing 18 passes for 51 yards and three touchdowns in six total appearances.

The native of Spiro, Okla. was a member of Calgary’s Grey Cup-winning team in 1998 and earned two more rings as a starter with the Stampeders in 2008 and the Redblacks in 2016. He was named the Grey Cup MVP for both of those performances.
