Walker, Texas Rider: Saskatchewan signs veteran receiver Derel Walker

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have added another weapon to their new look offence, signing veteran American wide receiver Derel Walker. 

The 31-year-old has spent six of his last seven seasons with the Edmonton Elks, with the exception of the 2019 campaign with the Toronto Argonauts. In 16 games last season, he recorded 65 receptions for 874 yards and one touchdown.

Walker has amassed 471 career catches for 6,653 yards and 33 touchdowns in 91 CFL games. He has twice been named a CFL All-Star and earned divisional honours four times while winning a Grey Cup as a rookie in 2015.

The six-foot-two, 187-pound target took the league by storm in his first season with Edmonton, recording 1,110 yards and six touchdowns in just 12 games on his way to winning Most Outstanding Rookie. He followed it up with a sensational 109 receptions for 1,589 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2016, earning an opportunity with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Once regarded as the league’s top receiver, Walker last crossed the thousand-yard mark in 2019 during his lone season as an Argo. 

Prior to his CFL career, Walker caught 59 passes for 903 yards and five touchdowns in two seasons at Texas A&M University.
