Ottawa Redbacks sign veteran Canadian receiver Lemar Durant

The Ottawa Redblacks have signed Canadian receiver Lemar Durant to a one-year contract for the 2023 season.

The 30-year-old Durant has suited up in seven CFL seasons, most recently with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2022. He appeared in 11 games while hauling in 12 passes for 112 yards and one touchdown.

A native of Vancouver, BC, Durant was selected in the second round, 18th overall during the 2015 CFL Draft by the Calgary Stampeders. He spent four seasons in Calgary, highlighted by a Grey Cup victory in 2018, in which he earned Most Outstanding Canadian honours for the championship game. He then spent two seasons with the B.C. Lions, before moving on to Hamilton.

Through 85 career CFL games, the six-foot-two, 218-pound Durant has caught 195 passes for 2,465 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns to go with 67 rushing yards on nine carries.

The Simon Fraser University product began his collegiate career at the University of Nevada, Reno before transferring after the 2010 season. Durant appeared in 19 games over three seasons at SFU (2012-2014), registering 139 receptions for 1,838 yards and 19 receiving touchdowns also adding four carries for 34 yards and one rushing touchdown.
