The Ottawa Redblacks have released American linebacker Avery Williams so that he can pursue other opportunities.

The 28-year-old was a pending free agent but now hits the open market three days early. The Redblacks are expected to sign Hamilton Tiger-Cats linebacker Jovan Santos-Knox as his replacement.

Williams has played in 59 career games over four seasons with Ottawa. Since his arrival in 2018, the five-foot-10, 223-pound backer has recorded 293 defensive tackles, six sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and a touchdown. He was named an East Division all-star in 2021.
