Montreal Alouettes sign Central Connecticut State standout Tyshaun James

The Montreal Alouettes have signed American receiver Tyshaun James.

James played in 43 games over four seasons at Central Connecticut State, setting a new program record with 18 career receiving touchdowns. The added 114 catches for 1,881 yards and rushed for 294 more on 61 carries while scoring six times on the ground.

A converted high school quarterback, James was twice named first-team All-NEC, earning the honour in 2019 and 2021.  His best season came in 2019 when he posted 1,145 all-purpose yards and a conference-leading 14 touchdowns — nine receiving and five rushing — while leading the Blue Devils to an NEC Championship.

The six-foot-two, 214-pound pass catcher earned an invitation to the University of Connecticut pro day following his senior season, posting a 4.49-second 40-yard dash. He also recorded a 10-foot, 11-inch broad jump, a 37.5-inch vertical, and 22 reps on the bench, while clocking 7.07 seconds in the three-cone and 4.39 seconds in the 20-yard shuttle.

James was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Falcons in 2022 but was cut following his first preseason game.
