Calgary Stampeders release right tackle Julian Good-Jones to pursue NFL opportunity

The Calgary Stampeders have released right tackle Julian Good-Jones to pursue an opportunity in the NFL, the club announced on Monday. Though it remains unclear which NFL team he is signing with, he worked out for the Philadelphia Eagles shortly after the season was over.

The 25-year-old offensive lineman had a breakout second season with the Stampeders, starting 15 games for the league’s best offensive line. Calgary allowed just 17 sacks while producing an average of 6.4 yards per carry and 135.3 yards per game in the running game — all tops in the league by a wide margin.

The six-foot-five, 319-pound blocker made seven regular season starts and one postseason start at right tackle as a rookie in 2021. He came to the Stampeders after attending training camp with the Eagles in 2020.

In college, Good-Jones played and started 49 games over four seasons at Iowa State. He was an honourable mention all-Big 12 Conference selection in 2017 and 2018 and was named first-team all-conference in 2019.

As a senior, Good-Jones helped pave the way for an Iowa State offence that broke school records for total offence, touchdowns, passing yards, and yards per play. The Cyclones also conceded just 16 sacks, the fewest in the Big 12.

Good-Jones remains under contract with the Stampeders through 2023, though all CFL players are permitted to depart for the NFL via the window that was established in 2019.
