Winnipeg Blue Bombers re-sign future Hall of Fame left tackle Stanley Bryant

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed American offensive lineman Stanley Bryant to a one-year contract extension, the team announced on Thursday. He was scheduled to become a free agent in February.

The six-foot-five, 313-pound blocker originally joined the Blue Bombers as a free agent in February 2015 following a five-year stint with the Calgary Stampeders. He has since started 120 games at left tackle, been named a CFL all-star five times, won four CFL Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman awards, and won two Grey Cups. He also won one Grey Cup and was twice named a league-star as a member of the Stamps.

The East Carolina product is the only player in CFL history to be named the league’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman more than twice. He was also a finalist for the award in 2019, losing narrowly to Chris Van Zeyl of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The years he was given the award include 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022.

Winnipeg allowed 29 sacks during the 2022 season, which ranked second-best league-wide.

Bryant is the oldest active member of the Blue Bombers as he will turn 37 in May. Earlier this week, he was named 3DownNation‘s No. 20-ranked pending free agent.
