Redblacks re-sign Canadian defensive lineman Cleyon Laing through 2024

The Ottawa Redblacks have signed Canadian defensive tackles Cleyon Laing to a two-year contract extension, tying him to the team through 2024. He was set to become a free agent in February.

The six-foot-four, 290-pound defender broke into the league with the Toronto Argonauts as a first-round pick in the 2012 CFL Draft out of Iowa State. He has played nine seasons in the league as a member of the Argos and Redblacks, recording 195 defensive tackles, two special teams tackles, 39 sacks, and three forced fumbles.

The 32-year-old started all 18 regular season games for Ottawa this past season, recording 26 defensive tackles, one special teams tackles, and three sacks.

The native of Edmonton had a brief stint with the Miami Dolphins in 2016 and signed with the Redblacks upon his return to the CFL, helping them win the 104th Grey Cup. He signed with the Argos the following year and won the 105th Grey Cup as a member of the team.

Laing is a four-time East Division all-star.
