Redblacks re-sign Canadian defensive end Kene Onyeka

The Ottawa Redblacks have signed Canadian defensive lineman Kene Onyeka to a two-year contract extension, the team announced on Tuesday. He was slated to become a free agent in February.

The 26-year-old has spent three seasons with the team and recorded 31 defensive tackles, 20 special teams tackles, seven sacks, and two forced fumbles over 36 career games. This past season was the best of his career as he made17 defensive tackles, nine special teams tackles, five sacks, and one forced fumble over 17 games with two starts.

“I’m very happy to sign on for another two years with the Redblacks,” said Onyeka in a statement. “I’m just happy to get to do what I love in a place that I love.”

The six-foot-three, 247-pound defender was selected in the fourth round, 29th overall, in the 2018 CFL Draft out of Carleton University. He was born in Lagos, Nigeria and raised in Brampton, Ont.
