Ottawa Redblacks re-sign Canadian defensive back Ty Cranston

The Ottawa Redblacks have re-signed Canadian defensive back Ty Cranston, the team announced on Wednesday. As per 3DownNation‘s John Hodge, the extension is for one year through 2023.

The 28-year-old signed with the Redblacks as a free agent in February 2022 following three seasons with the Montreal Alouettes. The Winnipeg native dressed for 17 games and made three defensive tackles along with a career-high 17 special teams tackles.

“I’m very excited to be re-signing with Ottawa, and continuing my career with the Redblacks. Ottawa has become my home over the past 10 years and I’m excited to work to rebuild the strong Redblacks legacy that I’ve witnessed throughout my time in Ottawa,” Cranston said in a statement.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to work with (head) coach (Bob) Dyce, and reuniting with Khari Jones and Barron Miles. All three are coaches I greatly respect, and have lots to offer this team and the city moving forward.”

Cranston was selected in the seventh round, 56th overall, by the Alouettes in the 2017 CFL Draft out of the University of Ottawa.
