Hec Crighton Trophy winner Kevin Mital headlines U Sports players of the week

Laval Rouge et Or receiver Kevin Mital has been named the U Sports offensive player of the week after an impressive performance in the 57th Vanier Cup.

The second-year target caught eight passes for 142 yards this past weekend and threw a touchdown pass as his team defeated the Saskatchewan Huskies by a score of 30-24. The native of Quebec City, Que. won the Ted Morris Trophy as the Most Valuable Player in the game two days after claiming the Hec Crighton Trophy as the top player in all of U Sports.

Laval linebacker Charles-Alexandre Jacques was named the U Sports defensive player of the week. The second-year defender made 5.5 tackles in the Vanier Cup with one solo tackle and nine assisted tackles. He was in on the tackle that forced Saskatchewan to turn the ball over on downs with less than a minute remaining in the game and won the Bruce Coulter Award as the defensive player of the game.

Rouge et Or kicker Vincent Blanchard was named the U Sports special teams player of the week after connecting one five field goals during the Vanier Cup. The second-year and native of Quebec City, Que. made a 49-yard field goal the second-longest in Vanier Cup history, and added an 85-yard kickoff single. He finished the game with 18 points.
