Saskatchewan Roughriders sign Saskatoon native David Solie, offensive lineman Zack Fry

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed a pair of Canadians including kicker David Solie and offensive lineman Zack Fry, the team announced on Tuesday.

Solie made 76.3 percent of his field goals over three seasons with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies with a long of 47 yards. He also punted 200 times for an average of 38.6 yards and kicked off 141 times for an average of 53.3 yards.

The native of Saskatoon, Sask. was named a first-team All-Canadian in 2021 and a Canada West all-star in 2022. He won the Canadian Bowl as a member of the CJFL’s Saskatoon Hilltops in 2018 and was named Team Canada MVP and Senior Bowl MVP in 2017.

Fry was selected in the second round of the 2022 CFL Draft out of Western University. He attended training camp with the Riders this past season before returning to the Mustangs for his fourth year of U Sports eligibility.

The six-foot-six, 304-pound blocker was named an OUA all-star and second-team All-Canadian this past year, helping his team go 8-0 in the regular season and lead the OUA in points per game (45.0), total offence (4,106 yards), rushing yards (2,336), and yards per rush (8.2).

The native of London, Ont. was named a first-team OUA all-star in 2019 and 2021 as well as a U Sports second-team All-Canadian. He won a Vanier Cup in 2021 as his Mustangs defeated the University of Saskatchewan by a score of 27-21.
