The Edmonton Elks have released global offensive lineman Steven Nielsen, the team announced on Monday.
The six-foot-eight, 307-pound blocker was the second overall pick in the 2021 CFL Global Draft out of Eastern Michigan. He dressed for 30 games with the Elks and made four starts at right tackle in 2021.
The native of Denmark recently signed with Raiders Tirol, an Austrian team in the European League of Football. He was under contract with the Elks for 2023 until he was released on Monday.
Nielsen signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars after going unselected in the 2020 NFL Draft, though he was released partway through training camp. He was named third-team All-MAC while playing at Eastern Michigan in 2018.
