NFL legend Tom Brady jokes about hoping to play in CFL ‘at some point’ to further international success

A legendary NFL quarterback is harbouring aspirations to play in the CFL after winning another game outside of the United States.

Tom Brady led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 21-16 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany this past weekend. In doing so, he became the first NFL QB ever to win games in four different countries.

“I think it’s pretty cool. I’ve been around long enough to see these international games take place, it’s like I’m the EPCOT centre of quarterbacks. It was really fun to be a part of it,” Brady said on his podcast Let’s Go!

“I think the fact that I’m undefeated outside the U.S., I’m hoping I can get to go play in the CFL at some point and really see what I can make of myself up there because things have gone pretty well outside the country.”

Brady is in the midst of his 23rd season in the NFL and third as a member of the Buccaneers. He has won seven Super Bowls, five Super Bowl MVP awards, and three NFL MVP awards en route to becoming the league’s all-time leading passer with 87,325 yards, 636 touchdowns, and 205 interceptions.

If the 45-year-old did come to Canada, he could join Doug Flutie with a Grey Cup ring.

“He’s a former teammate and hero of mine,” Brady said. “He’s always said great things [about the CFL.]”

Flutie played eight seasons north of the border and was named the league’s Most Outstanding Player a record six times. The three-time Grey Cup MVP threw for 41,355 yards, 270 touchdowns, and 155 interceptions before returning to the NFL where he started 52 games over the following eight years.

In 2005, Flutie served as Brady’s backup with the New England Patriots during his final season before retiring and the two have remained close ever since. During the season, the pair reportedly text once a week.
