Calgary Stampeders’ kicker Rene Paredes says odds of playing in 2023 are 50-50

Calgary Stampeders’ kicker Rene Paredes hasn’t made any decisions regarding his future but there is a possibility that he has played the final game of his career, according to TSN’s Salim Nadim Valji.

Rene Paredes says it’s 50-50 on if he will return and that we will know soon…family & future employer will be big factors in that decision but says he thinks he can still kick at a high level.

The eleven-year veteran signed with Calgary on July 4, 2011 after going undrafted out of Concordia University. He has dressed for 193 consecutive regular season games since, connecting on 494-of-564 career field goal attempts (87.6 percent) along with 426-of-451 career convert attempts (94.5 percent).

Paredes has been selected as a West Division all-star six times, including this year when he hit a career-long 53-yard field goal. He has also been named a CFL all-star four times plus a possible fifth selection this week when the league all-stars are unveiled. He has won two Grey Cups as a member of the Stampeders and was named the league’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2013.

Raised in Pierrefonds-Roxboro, Que., Paredes will be 38 by the time training camp opens in May 2023.
