Edmonton Elks sign local product Cole Nelson to one-year contract extension

The Edmonton Elks have re-signed Canadian offensive and defensive lineman Cole Nelson to a one-year contract extension.

The 25-year-old was selected fifth overall in the 2021 CFL Draft out of the University of Alberta Golden Bears. He played 17 career U Sports games along the defensive line and made 21 total tackles, one sack, and one fumble recovery.

The native of Ponoka, Alta. has dressed for ten games over his first two CFL seasons, recording three tackles. He spent most of the 2022 season on the practice roster, dressing for the club’s Week 19 loss to the Toronto Argonauts.

The Elks also signed American free agent receiver Trevor Begue.

The five-foot-eleven, 195-pound target played for the University of the Incarnate Word in 2021 and recorded 46 catches for 620 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games. Prior to joining the Cardinals, the native of Lafayette, La. spent four seasons (2017-20) at McNeese State University where he made 102 receptions for 1,471 yards and 15 touchdowns.
