CFL fines seven Stampeders’ defenders for touchdown celebration in Commonwealth Stadium fan area

The Canadian Football League has fined seven members of the Calgary Stampeders for violating the league’s security protocol as part of a celebration during the team’s Week 14 win in Edmonton.

Defensive backs Elie Bouka, Jonathan Moxey, Dionté Ruffin, Trumaine Washington and Kobe Williams, as well as defensive linemen Shawn Lemon and Mike Rose, were seen celebrating in the field-level seating in the Commonwealth Stadium endzone following a pick-six by Washington early in the first quarter. This went against the league’s policy concerning players entering a fan area in a visiting stadium, which the league has enforced since high-profile altercations at last year’s East Final.

Earlier this season, Saskatchewan Roughriders’ receiver Duke Williams was slapped with a similar fine for enjoying a plate of nachos with visiting fans in the same endzone section. The punishment was met by outrage from Riders fans, including one who protested by sending nachos to the CFL head office.

In other supplemental discipline news, Toronto Argonauts’ defensive lineman Shawn Oakman was fined for a high hit on Ottawa Redblacks’ quarterback Nick Arbuckle.

As per league policy, the amounts of the player fines were not disclosed.
