B.C. Lions release former Sacramento State quarterback Kevin Thomson

The B.C. Lions have released former Sacramento State quarterback Kevin Thomson.

The six-foot-one, 220-pound passer dressed for one regular season game this season but did not register any statistics. He reportedly impressed the team during training camp but suffered a serious injury against the Calgary Stampeders during the preseason on a controversial hit from rookie defensive back Titus Wall.

Thomson attended rookie mini-camp with the Carolina Panthers in 2021 but did not sign with the team.

He played four seasons (2016-19) at Sacramento State University where he completed 57.3 percent of his passes for 6,424 yards, 52 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions over 27 career games. He also recorded 257 carries for 1,247 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Thomson was named the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year and given first-team All-Big Sky honours in 2019. He transferred to the University of Washington in 2020 but did not see any action with the Huskies.
