Blue Bombers sign former NFL defensive back J. T. Hassell

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed American defensive back J. T. Hassell.

The five-foot-eleven, 199-pound cover man signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He dressed for seven games as a member of the Browns and New York Jets, recording eight total tackles.

The Titusville, Fla. native transferred from South Dakota State to Florida Tech as a junior and led the Panthers that same season with 78 tackles. He made 124 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles as a senior and was named first-team All-Gulf South Conference and the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year.

According to NFL Draft Diamonds, Hassell ran a 4.38-second forty-yard dash at his pro day and recorded a 4.26-second short shuttle, 6.84-second three-cone drill, 23 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, a 121-inch broad jump, and a 42-inch vertical jump.
