Saskatchewan Roughriders’ head coach Craig Dickenson has tested positive for COVID-19.
The team issued a statement on Wednesday indicating that the veteran coach is “currently quarantining per CFL policy and is expected to return to the team on Saturday in time for the Labour Day Classic.”
The 50-year-old is in his third season as Saskatchewan’s head coach and has posted a 28-15 regular season record. The Riders finished atop the West Division in 2019 but lost the West Final in Regina to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The team returned to the postseason in 2021 and won the West Semi-Final over the Calgary Stampeders before a narrow loss to Winnipeg in the West Final.
Dickenson first came to the CFL as an assistant coach with the Calgary Stampeders in 2002 and has since served as the special teams coordinator in Calgary (2005-09), Saskatchewan (2011-12, 2016-18), Winnipeg (2013), and Edmonton (2014-15).
The Riders (6-5) are scheduled to host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (10-1) on Sunday with kickoff slated for 6:00 p.m. EDT. Saskatchewan has won 14 of the last 16 Labour Day Classics, though Winnipeg won last year’s rivalry game by a score of 23-8.
